The Parish community of St. Agatha observes its centennial celebration full of hope and optimism that the next 100 years will be as dynamic and successful as the first 100 years. We also look back with fond admiration on the accomplishments of those who have gone before us who had a vision of what the parish should be, and strove and sacrificed to make that vision a reality. These last 100 years have seen a myriad of watershed events—two World Wars, the Great Depression, wars in Korea, Vietnam and the Middle East, two devastating pandemics, the assassination of one President and the attempted assassination of another, and two attacks on our homeland itself. Those hundred years have also seen unprecedented economic growth, staggering scientific advancements and technological development unparalleled in the history of mankind. Through it all, St. Agatha Parish has stood tall and been the spiritual beacon to tens of thousands of people from Milton and Quincy. Its history has not been without its challenges and setbacks, but the Faith and steadfast commitment of its parishioners and the leadership of its clergy and religious have made it strong and vibrant. This is its story.
The History of St. Agatha Parish on the occasion of its Centennial year was compiled and written by Jack Riley, longtime parishioner and the Parish's Director of Operations & Finance from 2002-2021. We would like to thank Jack for his service to the Parish and for all of his efforts in helping us learn about the beginnings and growth of Saint Agatha Parish through these last one hundred years.
