Campaign Prayer
Compassionate and loving God, You have been generous to us and have blessed us.
You continue to be generous in sharing Your gifts with us. Strengthen us in faith.
Grant us the spirit of sacrifice so that, with Your continuing Grace, we may provide for the needs of our Parish and look to our future both united and growing in faith and so give You glory and praise. We ask this through Jesus our Lord. Amen |
The renovation
project in the Church is moving along at a rapid pace.
As the pictures show, work is being proceeding rapidly
inside the lower Church. It was discovered that the
original Church was actually constructed in two parts.
The earliest section was what we all know as the “rear
section” – i.e. the part of the Church towards
Adams St. where the old choir loft was. In fact, when
the Church was first opened, the altar was located in
this area. The “newer section” is the section
from where the altar was located just prior to the renovations
to the transept (the aisle that cut horizontally across
the Church). Unfortunately, the floor in this area was
not constructed as well as the original section, and
we had to remove all of the concrete and pour a new
floor in that section. But that has been completed and
the entire floor will now be covered by a waterproof
sealant. Framing of the walls is now beginning.
But while work is now moving rapidly on the new space
itself and the various rooms will be starting to take
shape, much has been occurring in the walls and ceilings.
A catwalk has been built inside the attic of the Upper
Church and work has begun on installing the new sprinkler
system. Small holes will be cut in the ceiling for the
sprinkler heads, but when it is completed, they will
be virtually un-noticeable. Also, work has started on
the new heat distribution system which will convert
the entire Church from steam to a hot water heating
system. This will result in the removal of all of the
radiators which will be replaced by the new system.
The rough plumbing and electrical are moving along rapidly.
We have selected an alarm company to install the new
security system, and they will be completing that work
shortly. You may have also noticed a trench and a pile
of dirt near the elevator entrance. We are in the process
of locating and repairing leaks in our underground drainage
system which have plagued the lower Church for years.
When this work is complete, we will have successfully
solved another chronic problem.
The biggest single structural change which will be
occurring over the next several weeks is the transformation
of the three window openings on the St. Agatha Rd. side
of the Church into three sets of double doors. The contractor
will be saw-cutting though the wall and foundation shortly
to make this possible. When the renovations are completed,
these doors will open from the rear of the Chapel onto
a beautiful plaza. Stay tuned for further updates.
