ARISE: TOGETHER IN CHRIST!

“No longer living with our own life, but with the life of Christ.”

This Fall, 23 small groups, guided by parish facilitators, formed throughout St. Agatha Parish to explore Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John’s accounts of Jesus’ life, and how we can take these words to heart by incorporating them into our daily lives. Over six weeks, we reflected on what it means to be a follower of Christ in today’s world.

We invite anyone interested in this wonderful renewal program to consider becoming a small group facilitator for the upcoming Lenten season. ARISE facilitators help group members get to know one another, arrange for meetings to occur in a reflective atmosphere, and flexibly guide their groups through a weekly session of faith sharing. Each gathering includes a balance of prayer, exploring scripture, reflection, and talking about how to live out our faith.

Who is eligible to serve as a facilitator of a small group?
The qualities of a person best suited for the facilitator's role are not specific to gender, age, education or length of time as a parishioner. Anyone who has faith in Jesus Christ, is committed to practicing his/her faith, loves all people, and has the gift of listening well to others is welcome and encouraged to join us. The facilitator's job is not to teach but rather to be a conduit for the Spirit's activity among the participants.

Prior experience facilitating a group is not necessary. An instinct for or insight on the job of balancing listening and easing a group's movement with respect and care for all members is most helpful.

Facilitator training is supplied by Renew International for all facilitators in Boston parishes which takes place just prior to the beginning of each season. Specific content and guidelines for each meeting are provided to all facilitators, reducing preparation to a minimum each week.
